I've got a sweeth tooth for the cotton candy colors of the 1930s

I dig this gal's beanie and corn cob pipe too.
Flower vendors along Rainbow Row, Charleston, SC
love these colors together.

I adore the patterns on these 1930s dresses, worn by students of Ashley Hall girls' school in Charleston, SC. I own two 1930's dresses, one I've yet to show you. My wardrobe is calling out for more, but they're pretty hard to find, especially in my size, and within my budget.

now, doesn't this post make you wanna stuff your faces with strawberry short cake and mint and chip ice-cream?

jesse's bday weekend

pampas grass
Jesse’s bday weekend was so much fun. I was pretty decadent and stuffed my face with all kinds of sugar, including Amanda’s homemade cookies. I really flipped my lid when I took my first bite to discover an oreo cookie inside the chocolate chip cookie. I’m gonna try and lay off the sugar this week to make up for this weekend’s gluttony. The mixed-cd music swap was a success, and Pete & I came home with tons of new music. Elliott stayed the night on Friday, and after my photography class on Saturday, we all hung out, just like old times. We went to Joe Jost’s and played Canadian shuffle board, then we went thrift store shopping, and,
lastly, to Fingerprint’s Record Store. I bought Kate Bush's "The Kick Inside", which I really wanted on record.

Pete and I did some tag team photo snapping to capture these moments. We both shot with Minolta point & shoot film cameras, but mine is really big and awkward looking, kind of like how cell phones used to look when they first came out. I bought it for $2 at a flea market barn.

For Jesse’s party, I dressed somewhat Amish- like (my rendition), in honor of the Mexican-Amish look he used to sport so often.

i rode my bicycle [backwards] passed your window last night

But for the freakishly cold weather, and the hat lady vendor who must have repeated “Get a hat, get ahead” about 1000 times to passers by, and within ear shot of us, Stacy & I had a fun time selling vintage clothing last Sunday at the Long Beach Flea Market.  I wore one of my all time favorite vintage sweaters, a treasured gift from Mikey, who gave it to me when I turned 19 years old.  She found it at the thrift store, of course. It features a lanky gal with flowers coming out of her hair, riding backwards on a bicycle. I think it pretty much sums up my personality.

new friendships

IMG_3878

Jesse and I had nieces’ day yesterday, and think we may have forged a new friendship between our nieces. Not to sound overly sentimental, but it’s so nice to see how easily children can make friends. At the end of the play date, Jesse asked the kids, “So now are you guys best friends?” Anna, my niece, instantly replied “Yes, we love each other.” Embarrassed by the mushiness (and I don’t blame her), Penelope, Jesse’s niece, hid her head behind the heart patterned fabric of her doll’s knit cap, claiming “the sun is in my eyes.” When Jesse then asked his niece if she loved Anna, she said from beneath the fabric “yes.” In recent years, Jesse has become increasingly mushy, which has made me want to cover my eyes in embarrassment too. Yet, I still hold the hope in my heart that my niece will have true & solid friends in her life, and I do believe nieces’ day was a good start.

I took so many adorable photographs of these two, but I am resisting the urge to share them all, so as not to appear a ridiculously doting auntie. We had tons of fun, playing in the arcade, traversing bridges, playing hide and go seek, blowing bubbles, coloring, eating pizza, taking photo booth pictures, singing and dancing. My niece did her solo rendition of Annie’s “Tomorrow”. It’s the cutest thing to watch; she looks so sincere when she sings, like she’s been transported to the stage. Needless to say, I cannot get that song out of my head. Stacy, my friend & Jesse’s girlfriend, joined us in the fun. It was pretty awesome having a 3 adult to 2 kids ratio – smooth sailing.

The girls are wearing vintage dresses from my collection. I am wearing vintage 70s levi’s (Flashback’s vintage) 70s rainbow striped shirt, 70s platforms (thrifted), vintage skate key necklace (made by Pete), book necklace (Etsy)

the back side of dallas

Oh hi.
IMG_3833
I've had this 50s tan dress forever & I'm always on the fence about whether I should keep it or sale it. Today, it was hanging on the rack to be sold at tomorrow's Flea Market sale, but I tried it on, and now I can't sell it again. I didn't do much today, except eat Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles for breakfast w/Pete, family and friends, then get ready for tomorrow's sale while listening to country records. It's been raining like crazy all day & the palm trees are beating on my windows. It's the perfect time for hanging in doors. In these pictures, I'm lounging in the "back room" which also serves as my wardrobe room, library, sewing room, and general disaster area. Big eyed creatures line the walls.

This is one of my all time favorite country music songs, sang by the beautiful Jeannie C. Riley. I remember first hearing her on the backside of a Johnny Cash record, when I was probably 19 years old. It was one of my first records, and likely the most influential. I felt I could relate to her songs about growing up poor and becoming tough and rowdy. You could hear the grit in her voice, and I loved to listen and sing along, and still do. What a lover and a fighter, Ms. Jeannie C. Riley.

See you on the back side of somewhere.

this 50s suit is straight outta Compton

Compton thrift store, that is. By the way, did you get my allusion to the N.W.A. song? I'm harder than I look. haha. Speaking of hard, it's getting harder & harder to find 50s clothing at the thrift store, so when I found this 50s suit in pristine condition, I nearly dropped to my knees, and thanked the thrift store gods right there & then. Unfortunately, it's just a tad too big in the skirt, so it may be for sale soon.

After seeing this editorial of Rose McGowan donning a gaudy hot pink polka dot dress, I rummaged through my wardrobe to find something similar to wear. Why the heck am I wearing a vintage wedding veil? Well, because it’s fun. I will always love hot pink because it’s friendly and happy, and I always wanna aspire to be these things.

Thanks to Stacy at Fancy Disaster for taking my photo! By the way folks, nakedcowgirl vintage will be joining forces with Fancy Disaster this Sunday when we’ll be selling vintage at the Long Beach Flea Market at Veteran’s Stadium. I hope to see you there.
