a place both wonderful and strange

Howdy folks. I'm back from a most refreshing vacation in the Pacific Northwest. I took lots of photos, but these particular ones are from our time spent in the Snoqualmie Valley, Washington, where we slept in a tree house as the rain danced lightly on our rooftop, amongst mossy trees and abundant fern, along the Snoqualmie River. During the day, we hiked Mt. Si, which looms over the small town of North Bend, where Twin Peaks (both the series and Fire Walk with Me) was filmed. We ate at Twede’s CafĂ© (Double R Diner) to try the Twin Peaks Cherry Pie, which was beyond remarkable, and I should know - I’m a pie fanatic!. Agent Cooper shares my affinity, and once remarked of his dessert “This must be where pies go when they die.” Unfortunately, the same could not be said of the coffee, which was burned and certainly not the “damn fine cup o’ coffee” I expected. We also visited the Snoqualmie Falls, another prominent figure in the television series. It was raging, and I was pleased. It’s hard not to share the same childish wonder as Agent Cooper when exploring this quaint yet eerie valley, where the fog hangs steadily, the air is brisk and exhilarating, the folks are kind, and the pie is delicious.

"Harry, I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange." - Agent Cooper

Outfit # 1: vintage green corduroy coat, which you’ll be seeing a lot of in my Pacific Northwest posts. It blended seamlessly with the verdant Pacific Northwest landscape. (Thrifted), 40s or 50s sheer dress (vintage), monkey boots.

Outfit 2: 70s “stars” tshirt, vintage leather shorts, monkey boots (everything thrifted).

  1. WOWEE!!! These pics are so beautiful. The thing I loved best about my very brief visit to the Pacific Northwest was the moss! Everything was so green and lush. I guess I'll have to Netflix Twin Peaks; I've never seen it, but my dad was a big fan.

  2. Incredibly surreal, like something out of a fairy tale. I need to go here.

And you, of course, look gorgeous. That sheer dress is incredible.

  3. Ooo I've been to Twede's cafe. Aren't the old dusty twetty birds hanging from the cieling a trip? I love your sheer 50s dress. I've been obsessively searching for sheer 50s dress for DAYS....

    1. goodness, I must have been to focused on the pie, cause I don't recall the tweety birds. This poor old dress of mine is majorly tattered - holes & rips everywhere. But I can't get enough of 50s sheerness. I hope you find yourself a 50s sheer dress soon. I'm putting the energy out there for ya.

  4. oh please tell me you saw the log lady.

i can't believe we haven't embarked on a twin peaks inspired trip yet. that is definitely one that looms large in our future.

that mist, that moss, those curving canyons of trees, i can just feel the presence of the white lodge emerging.

lucky girl. i can't wait to see more of this northwest extravaganza. and you do it all with such pizzazz!
