60s woodland nymph

hold me

This unique brown Moire 60s bib dress will be in the shop this weekend along with some other equally handsome pieces. Doesn't it look like something a 60s woodland nymph might wear?

under the old oak tree

To me, there is nothing as beautiful as an old tree. When we made a trip out to Santa Clarita last weekend to meet up with Pete’s family for lunch, I knew I had to check out the native oak trees, which speckle the valleys and canyons and even the shopping centers in abundance. The road to a few of the oldest trees was marked with a “No Trespassing” sign, but I’m afraid I could not abide. Is it really such a crime to sit beneath an old oak tree as the wind runs through my hair and rustles my dress? What I love about oak trees is that each one is completely unique. The one featured in these photos was king of the hill, a loner, with arms both grazing the Earth and stretching up to the sky.

The wildflower dress, a perfect dress to welcome Spring, will be for sale in the shop come this weekend.

Trees are poems that earth writes upon the sky,
We fell them down and turn them into paper,
That we may record our emptiness.

cave dreaming

Spending my days dreaming of spring time getaways. I have been pining for some serious cave action. I think a trip to the Crystal Cave in the Sequoia National Park will do the trick, though I doubt I'll get naked. It's freezing inside a cave!

Some photos of the last couple of winter weekends in Long Beach. The sunny weather has been a boon to this summer soul and just perfect for sunset strolls along the beach with best buds where we witnessed the most vivid reflections on the water, reminiscent of 80s Trapper Keeper binders. Have a great weekend, everybody.

Blackstar Canyon

Maybe more than playing dress up, I like getting dirty and being barefoot in the great outdoors. Last weekend, Pete and I drove to Black Star Canyon, a region shrouded in mystery. Urban legends always kept me away as a teen. My friends and I were far too scared to set foot in Blackstar Canyon lest a Satan worshiper kidnap us and sacrifice our “virgin” bodies to the devil. Nowadays, mountain bikers and hikers flock to the canyon in abundance, but we found a peaceful place far from the maddening crowd where I could carry out my odd little fantasies of resting in hollowed out trees. We also took some photos for the shop, so you can expect a mini shop update soon. I'll also be selling at the Veteran's Stadium Flea Market (Booth # D-558) in Long Beach if you're in the area.

the love ship

This weekend, Pete and I celebrated our love for each other aboard the Queen Mary. I’ve pranced all around this art deco ship many times before, but I’ve never stayed in one of the rooms nor eaten at its fancy dining establishment, Sir Winston’s. While eating at Sir Winston’s, I recalled my childhood when Sizzler’s was considered fine dining in my family. And look at me now - eating lobster bisque, rack of lamb, and trying chocolate soufflĂ© for the first time (major yumminess, in case you’re wondering). I will always remember my humble roots, but it sure is nice to eat some fancy food at a high toned place sometimes. I feel fortunate for these moments, and I also feel lucky to have such a kind and loving boyfriend who takes photos of me everywhere and never seems put out. The Queen Mary was equally abiding, and I was allowed free reign. Given the leniency, I wish I would have brought my skates aboard. I have a dream to skate the wooden floors of this majestic ship. I’m gonna show ya’ll some more photos (digital) of our stay aboard the Queen Mary in another post.

Life has been idealistic as Walt Whitman’s verse and grand as a symphony these past few weeks. I’ve watched some really good bands - Reigning Sound, Mark Lanegan, and Graveyard (Swedish metal), though I feel asleep during the last two shows, believe it or not. My years of living in the fast lane have undoubtedly caught up with me. And then my good friend Tyler came to visit from Hawaii. It was so lovely to see him and hang with the old gang - each of us competing for the most laughs. Lastly, the weather has been sunny for a few weeks, and I’ve been able to spend a lot of time outdoors, which is my favorite place to spend my life.

my baby takes good pictures, ya.

Sometimes Pete goes out of town for work to these tiny little back road towns that one would otherwise not have the occasion to visit. When he is away on these trips, I stay home and become a total bachelor sloth. Piles of clothes everywhere. Daily hygienic routines ignored. an unmade bed. bad television marathons. Pete, on the other hand, is far more productive. When not working a 12 hour shift, he somehow finds the time to hit the thrift stores, explore the town, and take some pretty neat photos. Check out a few of his photos from a recent trip to Anniston, Alabama. The clouds are really were it's at.
